I've been trying to reply to bbum's post, firstly my comments were removed as spam, then he approved them by hand, now they're gone again. So here they are again.
I wrote [in this blog] much about my experiences getting OPENSTEP/Parallels working. Networking's fine but slow, graphics is good, mouse is a bit jumpy. I was talking at WWDC with people who say that Microsoft VPC no longer supports OPENSTEP/Mach. You definitely can't boot native on a new Intel Mac, as there's no SATA driver (and no way to use a boot floppy).
BTW, the floppy images are available over HTTP from Apple: OPENSTEP floppyimages

hey did you ever post that HOWTO somewhere?
I managed to boot the floppies, load the drivers (depending on the source, I have to load the EIDE/ATAPI (dual) driver, or the intel PIIX (or whatever) driver...), and hten I either get
- loads of text (not errors) followed by an error saying there's nothing to mount
or
- again loads of text, and then an error saying /etc/init_mach errno 2 blablalba.
Not sure what to do at this point...

@patrix: no, not yet. and I can't quickly determine what your issue might be. I'll followup with the HOWTO when I get the chance.
being a crufty NeXTStep developer myself, I too kept a legacy OpenStep partition on VPC.
actually, vpc didn't support openstep when MS first bought it from connectix.. but the last few versions, it did (same vhdd, no changes)..
now, wish to get it on Parallels, however, I can't even get it to boot the damn floppies on my MBP merom..
(renaming .fdd doesn't seem to do anything)
any suggestions?
Hmmm...I don't have a Merom system (I don't even have a Yonah system any more...I'm on my iBook G4, a Sony Vaio and a black cube) so I can't check, but do you mean the boot floppies as in the floppyimages downloadable from Apple? I think I didn't have very good luck with them...I had to use a Linux box to 'dd' the real OPENSTEP boot and drivers disks and use those images instead. I'm going into the old haunt soon to do some consultancy, I'll dig around and see if the disk images I used are still there.
I have just stumbled apon your 'iamleeg' website and was very interested in the OPENSTEP thru Parallels on a Powerbook. Before I run out and buy one is there any particular hardware I should avoid. i.e. does this work with a SATA disk drive? Did you eventually post the HOWTO somewhere?
